About Teak Furniture

Teak is a tropical hardwood native to south and southeast Asia but is also grown elsewhere in Africa and the Caribbean. It is a dense wood with a fine grain containing natural oils which make it extremely resistant to water and weather damage. This has made it a timber of choice for many outside applications such as boat decks, door and window frames, garden furniture and decking.

But its durability means teak has also found many indoor applications such as kitchen counter tops, cutting boards and flooring. Its strength also means it can be used structurally within buildings, such as supporting roof beams.

When used to make indoor teak furniture, it offers an attractive appearance due to its grain and its warm yellow-brown colour. Teak is hard enough to cause blunting of metal tools used for cutting and working the wood, so it easily withstands the knocks and bumps of everyday life. Teak furniture is, therefore, likely to last for a long time and keep its looks for many years.

About Eco Friendly Furniture

While many people love teak for its looks and durability, they worry about buying furniture made from tropical hardwoods from an ecological or ethical point of view. But this no longer has to be a barrier to enjoying teak furniture with a clear conscience.

The 4 Living teak range is all made using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood. This means that the wood is sourced from well-managed forests, where all trees harvested are replaced or allowed to regrow naturally, and where rare animals or indigenous peoples living in the forest are protected. Buying FSC certified products, such as furniture or paper, means that as a consumer you are not contributing to the deforestation of the planet, and are helping to promote sustainable and ethical businesses.

All our teak furniture is made from untreated teak wood. No paint or varnish means no toxic chemicals involved in the manufacturing process. (please check this is correct)

But being eco friendly isn’t just about how a product is manufactured – it’s also about how long it lasts and whether it is likely to contribute to landfill any time soon. The 4 Living Teak Range

We have teak furniture for the bedroom, living room and dining room all made with the same clean and simple lines.

For the bedroom, choose from 2 different styles: the Horizon range and the LF Teak range.

The Horizon teak bed is an ultra modern, chunky style bed available in King or Super King size. The slat design headboard mirrors the slatted fronts of several of our other teak items. In particular it is designed to work with the Horizon teak nightstand, a small 3 drawer chest.

The LF teak bed (King or Super King) is also a highly contemporary, minimalist design, but uses slimmer beams of wood to create a lighter, more open feel. It mirrors the design of the matching LF teak bedside table, a single drawer table, and the LF teak chest of drawers, a medium sized 3 drawer chest.

Four further cabinets in the Horizon slatted style enable you to choose exactly the right amount of storage for your needs. The Horizon teak wardrobe is a capacious double wardrobe with hanging rail and two shelves for shoes below. The Horizon teak chest of 4 drawers is a large, low chest, while the Horizon teak shoe storage cabinet includes 2 shelves and an internal drawer, making it useful for far more than shoes. Finally, the Horizon teak locker is a tall narrow cabinet with a door and 4 internal shelves. With a floor footprint of just 50cm by 45cm and a height of 195cm, this offers truly space-saving storage, and could also be used in a bathroom or landing to provide communal storage.

For kitchen and dining, choose from 2 types of table and seating.

The Oregon teak dining table is a simple, chunky style table which is a contemporary take on the rustic farmhouse table. It’s informal enough to be the family kitchen table, yet special enough to be dressed up for formal dining. Oregon teak dining chairs match the style of the table and feature a gently sculpted seat, softening the look of the square design.

The Cabana teak bar table is a high (105cm) counter style table, designed to be used with the Cabana teak bar stool. Both have square chunky legs and supports for a highly minimalist look – perfect for creating an instant breakfast bar in any kitchen.
